Fashionista?

Hey everyone!
What is up with me lately? I've been paying more attention to fashion/beauty trends! I'm trying to find more clothes and styles that look cute on me! Also, I've been wanting to wear bright colors and those cute little light-weight scarfs! Maybe it's the Spring season? I don't know but it's very out of character!
I'll be honest. I've tried my best to keep up with trends before, but I've never been the type to pull off the trendy stuff. Mom says I look better in the classic styles, and I agree with her. My main problem is money. I've never been able to afford to just go shopping for clothes, and come home with a whole new season's worth of wardrobe, you know? I have friends who can go to Target, Old Navy, Ross, TJ Maxx, and Marshall's and put together the CUTEST outfits! Me? I guess I don't have that natural radar! I tend to buy little pieces I think I can put together, only to find out they so don't and then I'm buying even more pieces I think go with those other pieces...and you see where this is going. What am I doing wrong? Am I looking in the wrong stores? Am I buying the wrong pieces?
I need friends I can shop with! I love having that support system of girlfriends, and having someone be honest with you without hurting your feelings! I went shopping with Mel once and she found me the most adorable grey dress! I can accessorize it for any season! The best part? I only spent $20 on it! Unfortunately for me, Mel moved to Australia and probably won't be back for a few more years! What am I going to do?! I've asked my little sister to help me out, because I'll admit she dresses better than I do. I don't think she likes to shop with me though. Ugh! I wish I could take Mel's knowledge of style and implant it to my brain. Can we arrange this, please?
Just a little rant about style and my (sometimes) lack-thereof.
Later Days!

I think that if you want to take your wardrobe to that next level you just have to start educating yourself about your body shape, skin tone and what shapes and colors look best on you based on those factors. What Not To Wear was the show that first taught me about fashion. If you can't afford to splash out on fashion mags, it's easy to tell the current trends by browsing the websites of your favorite stores. Usually they'll have a look-book put together of real models wearing the clothes so you can get a better idea of how things are supposed to fit and hang. Decide what image you want to project; Glamourous, Bohemian, Chic, Girl Next Door, and try to stay within those styles. You'll find that you'll be able to mix and match between peices in your wardrobe if you're consistent in the style you project. i.e. buying a pair of black studded gladiator heels when all you have at home are Girl Next Door type items doesn't make much sense....it makes shopping easier when you know the types of items to shop for. Knowing your skin tone will also make your wardrobe more cohesive. It will make putting together an outfit that much easier if, when you look in your closet, all your peices look as though they could have come from the same collection, even if they didn't. For example, if I had the choice between black, navy, white, ivory or brown in a shirt, I would choose the ivory or brown because my wardrobe is full of warmth and it would match absolutely everything and look great with my skin. :) http://www.thechicfashionista.com/your-best-perfect-colors.html to find out your coloring. The best fashion asset I've ever bought was a book called The Science of Sexy by Bradley Bayou. If you don't want to buy it, message me with these measurements: shoulders, waist, hips, height, and weight and I'll scan over your chapter of the book. It will break down what looks good on your shape and what NOT to wear. (to take your shoulder measurement, stand with your arms at your sides and have a friend measure around your shoulders with the top of the tape held so that it's right at the edge of the top of your shoulder) MVM.com is also awesome because you can try things on a virtual model of yourself. You get a better idea of what not to wear this way and also what trends you can get away with that you might have thought you couldn't. Long story short, you don't need someone shopping with you, you just need to know what to stay away from and what to gravitate towards. I hope that helps! It's a journey, but it's a fun one. :)
